What is a Prosthodontist?

Professor Tipton is a Prosthodontist which is a dental specialist as recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC) who specialises in veneerscrownsdental implantsbridgework and much more. “Prosthodontist” is a modern term and is associated with “crowns & bridge” specialist or “prosthetic dentist”

The General Dental Council have recognised the need for specialism in Dentistry and so in 1999 created the specialist register. Dr. Tipton was one of the first to be awarded specialist status by the GDC in 1999.

Throughout many areas of our life we rely on specialists when we have a specific problem or need expert advice. Within the field of Dentistry, a Prosthodontist is a term that most of the general public will not have heard, let alone understand, yet it is a specialism that requires years of additional education and expertise. Indeed, the Prosthodontist is often referred to as the architect of a dental treatment plan and is the dental specialty that involves the planning of your case.

The Prosthodontist brings together both the restorative elements of Dentistry and the cosmetic (or aesthetic) techniques to both fix problems, promote better oral care and help improve smiles and will then work alongside the specialists such as Endodontist, Periodontist, Oral surgeon, Orthodontist and general dentists as part of our team approach to your treatment.

If you are wishing to have your teeth restored or improve your smile, then the Prosthodontist is the specialist whom you would see.
