A second option for tooth loss are Dental Implants. Using a titanium dental implant a new titanium root is fixed into position to replace the missing tooth (teeth). A screw-in post is then used to support the dental crown(s) or dental bridgework. Loss of a tooth can impact your life, whether it be causing difficulty when eating or limiting what you can eat, to being embarrassed about your smile or losing confidence. A dental implant and attached dental crown is such a life-like replacement that you will no longer have to worry about which foods you can or can’t eat, but also no one will ever realise that the dental implant isn’t a real tooth!
Dental implants are a popular and effective option for people who have lost one or more teeth due to injury, decay, or other reasons. They are also used to provide additional support for dentures, making them more secure and comfortable.
Implants are artificial tooth roots that are typically made of titanium. They act as your new tooth root and are surgically embedded into your gum, providing a stable foundation for the replacement tooth or teeth, which can be custom-made to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth.
If you have a missing or broken tooth and are looking for a comfy, secure and natural looking replacement, then Dental Implants are your answer. They are a great way to rebuild your confidence in your smile, whilst also helping you eat and chew again.

What is the Process for Placing Dental Implants?
Step 1: Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation we will listen to your concerns about your teeth and talk you through the options for dental implants. We will examine your teeth, mouth and gums and may take X-rays and scans at this time. If you decide to go ahead with the treatment, we will formulate a bespoke treatment plan for you tailored to your specific needs.
Step 2: Implant Surgery
We understand that undergoing dental treatment can be a very frightening experience. Our expert team are here to put you at ease every step of the way. During your surgery you will be given a local aesthetic to numb your mouth. The titanium dental implants will then be gently inserted into your gums. We will then fit you with a temporary crown so that you can leave the surgery without any gaps in your mouth.
Step 3: Healing Period
Your mouth and gums may feel sore for a few days, and you can manage this with paracetamol. Usually we need to allow between 2-6 months for your new dental implants to fuse with your jawbone. This stage is vital to ensure the success of your dental implants. Whilst you recover, our team will work hard on creating your bespoke bridge and / or crowns, unique to you.
Step 4: Final Appointment
Once you have fully healed, you will be invited back to the surgery so that your custom-made bridge or crown can be fitted. Once fitted, your surgery is complete. It is important that you care for your dental implants and maintain a good oral hygiene. We will give you tips on how to best do this so that you can ensure the success of your dental implants and prolong their longevity too.
Dental Implants Case Study
This gentleman was wearing a partial denture – “palate” – which was old and worn and he was unhappy chewing with it in this “modern age”. Two implants were placed and a three unit fixed bridge placed to give a permanent fixed solution.
